Pat - Admiral of the Navy!

Pat and I worked together for many years at The Hartford - he was a great friend, and there are many stories that I could share. When I would mention I was going to get a hair appointment- he would ask "You aren't going to get the brown football helmet put back on your head are you?" - when I would get a curly permanent, he referred to it as my brown "football helmet". He loved going to gun shows on the weekends, and would often come to work on Monday with some trinket he had purchased for my children at the show- light sticks, army rations, little can openers, etc. These days became affectionately known at our house as "Gun Show Monday" - and my kids looked forward to seeing what Pat might be sending home that day. After David and I got married, Pat added him to the list for "Gun Show Monday". In 1993, at Christmas, we received a very prestigious letter to be opened on Christmas Eve - addressed to my husband. It clearly stated that alien activity had been spotted in our area - and they had been known to abduct calves (we had lost one a few months prior). My entire family was in on the prank - and we were prepared for what was coming next in the letter from the "Admiral". Another way to identify aliens was by the fact they wore green wool army gloves and scarves. Pat had made sure that my entire family had a set of this to put on, so when David looked up from the letter, he was surrounded by a room full of aliens! To help protect us from future alien invasions, Pat provided my husband with a Ray Gun- with flashing lights and sirens when the trigger was pulled. The two of them then plotted behind my back so that one night when I was getting ready to get into bed, that Ray Gun came out of under the pillow and I was duly shot. Pat wasn't there to see it, but I can still hear him laughing when I was scolding him for turning on me like that! Every time he called our house he asked if David still had that gun. Over the last 20 years, the batteries died, and grandkids took its toll on that original Ray Gun. When I visited Pat in June of this year (June 23, 2013), he had found a replacement and sent it to David so he could stay prepared for any future alien attacks. If there are any aliens in heaven - they better watch out - I'm sure Pat is prepared. We love you, Pat, and will miss those calls from the Admiral of the Navy!
