Obituary for James Denis Deviney Jr.

James Denis Deviney Jr.
James Denis Deviney, Jr. “Jim”, age 74 passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 while being cared for at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. A native of Rutherford County, he is the son of the late James Denis Deviney, Sr. and Lillian Tolley Deviney. Jim was a graduate of Limestone College, an advertising executive with The Daily Courier and Northland Cable and owner of Jim Deviney Photography.
Jim was a hard worker and spent most weekends photographing weddings all around Rutherford County. He was known for his love of music. He played any instrument by ear and had a special bond with the guitar and piano. He was a member of the Happy Happenings band in the 70’s. He spent his later days “pickin' and grinning” with friends. He had a passion for gardening and loved to shower his friends and neighbors with vegetables. He enjoyed taking long walks in the woods and spent his summers boating on Lake James and Lake Lure. His grandchildren called him ”Op” and they were the apple of his eye. He loved nothing more than swinging them under the shade tree in his front yard and chasing after them on their toy tractors. He introduced them to his favorite Westerns, taught them how to play chess, and loved to cheer them on in their sports. He had a nickname for everyone and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Alley Deviney, one son, Denis Chad Deviney, one daughter, Erica Deviney Mark and son-in law, Bradley Mark, three grandchildren Ayden, Brady and Savannah Mark and a number of friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Adaville Baptist Church, 805 Oakland Road, Spindale, NC 28160 with Rev. Jeff Pate officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Adaville Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.
