Obituary for Howard Ross Champion

Howard Ross  Champion
Howard Ross Champion, 98, of Forest City, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Baxter and Bessie Champion. Howard was a loving father and grandfather. He retired with many years of service from Lutz Petroleum. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Air Force. Howard was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and an outstanding member of the Mt. Vernon community with a heart of gold. He enjoyed helping anyone in need and enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Christine Hutchins; son Robert Champion and daughter in law Jackie Champion; four grandchildren, Todd Champion, BJ Champion; Brandy Pringle and Heather Burns; six great grandchildren, Abby Pringle, Ashton Coffey, Blake Pringle, Mahleah Champion, Abri Champion, Daniel Champion and his caregiver Angelica Jennings. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Aline Champion, son, Steve Champion; daughter in law Robin Champion; brothers, Bud Champion and Hicks Champion and sister Lillian Rose.
Graveside services will be held on Friday December 11, 2020, 2PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Scott Courtney and Dr. Richard Bass officiating. The Rutherford County Honor Guard will present Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 2676 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC 28043 or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.
