Una Bailey Godfrey, age 82, of Forest City, NC passed away on May 28, 2014 at White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton. She was born August 28, 1931 to William Taylor Bailey and Martha Jane Hudgins Bailey of the Greenhill area of Rutherford County. She was the ninth of the couple’s nine children and was reared on the family farm on Maple Creek Road. The family later moved to Spindale where she resided until marrying John Virgil Godfrey in 1949.They had two daughters, Marilyn and Pamela. Una was a homemaker and worked a short time at various textile plants. She was a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, John Virgil Godfrey; a grandson Brian Christopher James; five brothers, Harland, Garland, Alvin, Albert and Alton Bailey; two sisters, Hattie Bailey Keller and Betty Bailey Tripolino.
Una is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Jones and husband Ronnie Jones, Pamela Guffey and husband Harold Guffey, both of Forest City; two grandsons Shawn Patrick James and wife Buffy of Dobson, NC and Brandon Scott James and wife Jackie of Forest City; four great grandsons, S. Patrick James, Jr, Cody James, Preston James and Trevor James, all of Forest City; three great granddaughters, Lillian James, Audrey James, and Taylor James all of Forest City; two step-granddaughters, Kellianne Jones of Kings Mountain, NC and Chloe Brown of Dobson, NC; one great great granddaughter Payton James of Forest City; one sister Lena Bailey Whitaker of Clearwater, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Crowe’s Mortuary with Rev. Robert Snyder Jr. officiating. Interment will be private for the family. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society.
