Robert Alfred Tolhurst, age 94 of Bostic, NC passed away on 1/16/2016. Bob was the son of the late Charles and Jessie Tolhurst of Fremont, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Charles Tolhurst both of Fremont, OH and a daughter, Judith Ann Long of Dallas, TX. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Helen Claytor Tolhurst, and three sons, Capt. Robert A. Tolhurst Jr USN-Retired of King George, VA, Dr. John Tolhurst of Bostic, NC, Charles Tolhurst of Cincinnati, OH, daughter Mari Callaway of Port Charlotte, FL; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Bob was a fighter pilot in the Air Force, and served in WWII with the Flying Tigers, in both India and China, flying P-40's and P-47's. Later he graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and then continued to serve in the Air Force for twenty five years. He then flew as a private pilot instructor for 10 years at Owen's Field in Columbia, SC. A memorial service will be held on January the 30th at 12pm, at St. John’s Episcopal Church 1151 Elm Savannah Rd Hopkins SC 29061. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.
