Obituary for Ray Edward McCurry

Ray Edward McCurry, age 76, of Bostic died Thursday, June 18 at Willow Ridge Nursing Center in Rutherfordton. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Ethel Simmons McCurry. He was a retired salesman from the auto industry. Ray was a lifelong member and former deacon of Spencer Baptist Church. He was a Boy Scout leader, softball coach, former Civitan of the Year, Spike Ellis Memorial Fireman of the Year, and a volunteer for the Forest City and Spindale Fire Departments. He was a US Army veteran, serving n the Korean War.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Ruff McCurry of the home; son Chuck McCurry and wife Lori of Cohocton, NY; daughter Robin Killian and husband Rob of Bostic; two brothers, Earl McCurry and wife Nelle of Forest City, and Gene McCurry of Asheville; two grandchildren, Trent Killian of Bostic and Holly McCurry of Ellenboro; one great grandchild Jordan Crawley of Ellenboro.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20 at 11 AM at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Billy E. Vaughn and Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, June 19 from 6 until 8 PM at Crowe’s Mortuary.
