Garrett David Williams age 27, formerly of Mount Pleasant, SC and Rutherfordton, NC died Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

His mother Christine Marie Williams, father William Richard Williams and brother Ethan Richard Williams survive him.
Those that knew him will remember his zest for life and love of people, especially children. Garrett adored his family and friends beyond measure. A natural athlete – he was an incredible fisherman, talented wake boarder, snow boarder, golfer and motor cross rider (really anything he tried, he mastered and did it “big”). He lived more life in his 27 years than most and he was always up for the next adventure.

Garrett is quoted as saying “I really love helping people” – and he did just that. Helping those around him and having a good time no matter the circumstance was one of Garrett’s greatest traits. He spoke to everyone with interest and ALWAYS with a big beautiful smile on his face. He was everybody’s buddy and his heartwarming demeanor with animals and children was a shining example of kindness and love in a world that could use a lot more of that.

Though Garrett is no longer with us, he will never be forgotten. The family will hold a celebration of life party in Charleston each year (TBD), hosted by his parents and brother. For now, in honor of Garrett’s love for animals donations can be made to the Heart of the Foothills Animal Rescue, 380 US Hwy 221 N. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. or at

Chris, Richard, and Ethan, Bobby and I just heard this terrible news. Our hearts are broken. We loved Garrett, and enjoyed his over the top spirit about all things. What a wonderful surprise we had when the boys and their girlfriends showed up at the lake house on Father's Day. You all are in our thoughts and our prayers. I can't imagine your heart break, ours are broken as well. Take care of each other and if there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate to reach out. We love you guys.

Sending warm thoughts and prayers your way during this time! I only met Garrett once (last week) and briefly at that, but I went back and talked about what a genuine and friendly smile you had and how I looked forward to getting to Charleston some time with our grandson to let him go out fishing with you. I wish I had known you longer and I wish we had taken that fishing trip together! Chris and I will be thinking of you all in the days and weeks to come!

Garrett, we weren’t the best of friends but We were neighbors at Appalachian State in Mountaineer ok building 575. Your kindness, ability to find the positive out of most any situation as well as your smile that would light up a dark room will never be forgotten. Rest in Heaven buddy, until we meet again. 😢
