I would like to express my deepest condolences to Randy and the family on the passing of Mr. Melton. One of the finest men I have ever known, Mr. Melton put me on the air in the spring of 1984 at WCAB. I was the afternoon announcer until I left in September for basic training. I was there when he and Bud Sparks sold the station to Jim Bishop. So many memories of him have surfaced since I learned of his passing; the smell of his pipe, the way he would put the phone down on the control desk and wander the station when Tom Tisdale was on the Afternoon Report. That is one of my favorite memories of him and always makes me smile. May he rest in peace.
