Barbara Parton Bates, 81, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 while being cared for at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late John Hampton Parton and Jennie Bell Head Parton. Barbara worked in the school system and was a member of Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Norris Junior Bates and wife Melinda of Forest City and Terry Dean Bates and wife Misty of Forest City; daughter, Angie Bates Holler and husband Bob of Rutherfordton; grandchildren, Christopher Bates of California, Brittany White, Savannah Bates of Forest City, Dean Bates, Justin Dean and Tripp Reynolds; great grandchildren, Josie Maxwell, Brenden Maxwell, Nola Bates, Nora Dean; one niece Tootsie Conyers and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Bates.
Funeral services will be held 12 PM Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Jack Crain and Rev. Jamie Pascarella officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Bates will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. The family requests that those in attendance observe social distancing and wear face coverings.
