Alfred Jessie Roper, 80, of Rutherfordton, died Monday, June 29 at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late John William and Euneeda Dills Roper. He was a retired loom fixer from Spindale Mills and also worked at the Gilkey Convenience Center. He was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Roper is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Guffey Roper of the home; daughter Linda Laramore of Aliso Viejo, CA,; two brothers, Ralph and James Roper of Rutherfordton; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday July 2 at 11 AM at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie Mills and Rev. Chad Sisk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
