Obituary for William Gilmer Mathews Sr.

Mr. William Gilmer Mathews, Sr.; age 81 of Boyd Court, Rutherfordton, NC passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Clyde Barry Mathews and Selma Brown Mathews Vess. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruppe Mathews. William was a retired loom fixer and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served with the 101st Airborne.
Left to cherish his memories are his children William Mathews, Jr.; Sharon Fox (Ryan) and Karen Roberts (Larry); grandchildren, Terry Dills (Cassie), Jamie Fox, Zachary Green, and Christopher Fox; great grandchild Savannah Dills;
The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 12 PM, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Crowe’s Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Park immediately after the visitation. Military Honors will be provided by The Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336 Forest City NC 28043.
