Obituary for Theresa Craig (Uzwovich)
Theresa (“Tessie”) Craig loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother joined her husband
in eternal rest after peacefully passing away in Leesburg, Virginia on Friday April 17, 2020.
She was preceded in rest by her loving husband, Paul Samuel Craig, her wonderful father and mother
John and Theresa Uzwovich, brother Al Uzwovich, and sister Kay Podkanowicz.
She is survived by her son Paul Jr. and wife Sandy of Yorktown, Virginia; her daughter, Barbara, and
husband Kenneth Stanford of Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren Paul Craig and wife Jackie, Jeff Craig,
Craig Stanford and wife Kathleen, and Laura Stanford Creech and husband Lee; four wonderful great-
grandchildren Audrey Stanford, Connor Craig, Charlotte Stanford, and Lucas Craig; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was born on Long Island New York on December 1, 1923 and attended High School in Roslyn, NY.
After graduation, she built Navy fighter planes and always felt a kinship with “Rosy the Riveter” of World
War II fame. During that time, she met Paul Craig, a young airman from Union Mills, North Carolina and
they later married after a storybook wartime romance. Their story continued across several states,
Germany, and the Philippines as they devoted their careers as an airman and an Air Force wife and
mother to the defense of our country. Their children, Paul Jr. and Barbara, also served in the Air Force.
After their Air Force adventures, “Tessie” and Paul settled in Union Mills and Rutherfordton, NC for
many years. They loved the view of their cattle contentedly grazing in the meadow from their home at
the foot of the Great Smoky mountains. Several years after Paul passed away, she moved to live with
her daughter and son-in-law at their home in to Ashburn, Virginia.
Due to the current COVID threat, the family intends a grave side memorial to celebrate her life when
