Obituary for Sheldon Ray Ramsey

Sheldon Ray Ramsey, age 91 passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, NC; Ray was a retired supervisor for Pike Electric with 43 years of service and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War where he received The Purple Heart with three Oak Leaf Clusters for wounds received in battle. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, NC, a Life Member of VFW Post #4066 and a Life Member of DAV Post #25.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Childers Ramsey; one son, Douglas Kyle Ramsey (Judith); two daughters, Rita Ray Gary (Bill) and Lori Lynn Norville (Chuck); two sisters, Nell Brooks and Dorothy Davis; grandchildren, Kara Leggett, Chad Norville, Zach Norville, Jennie Doran, Jon David Ramsey, Joanna Ramsey, Jesalyn Ramsey and Becca Gary; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents James Thomas Ramsey and Beulah Robbins Ramsey and one grandson, John Mark Gary
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel 118 College Ave. Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Rev. Raymond Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral service.
Concluding services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at The Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US 70 Hwy, Black Mountain, NC 28711 with Military Honors provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard.
