Obituary for Sandra Lee Jones

Sandra grew up in Rutherford County with loving parents, Paul Tomblin and Bertha Splawn Tomblin. She was extremely proud of her hometown and her heritage there. She was involved in sports throughout her entire life. Whether playing, coaching or being a spectator, Sandra was vivacious and passionate about HER teams! She attended R.S. Central High school and was a member of the women’s basketball team. She also was involved with many women’s and coed softball teams over the years. She later was co- founder of the women’s basketball league through the Spindale House community center. Many young women learned to play basketball and develop self- pride through Sandra’s leadership and relentless support. She took it upon herself to know everyone’s name and how they were connected to each other. She never met a stranger! To know her was to love her dearly! Her spiritual gift certainly was loving people unconditionally and helping them find worth and love for themselves. Later in life, her joyful attitude and love of living gave her the opportunity to positively impact employees and customers alike at Scoggins Restaurant. She always had a smile and a hug to give, not to mention her uncanny ability to know who and when needed it the most. Her gentle spirit put everyone around her at ease and she always could be counted on to make folks see the humor in life. Her laugh was contagious, and she generously shared it given any chance. Because of her personality and community involvement, Sandra found her way into many hearts of everyone she met. However, she still made time for continuing to cultivate the precious childhood friendships that were so dear to her. Sandra had multitudes of friends because she was the epitome of a great friend. Sandra never had human children however she spoiled countless dogs over the years. She was predeceased by many beloved fur babies and leaves her sweet Roscoe behind. She also leaves behind her great nieces Michelle Lancaster Jolley, and Jennifer Lancaster Patterson, her nephew Steve Walker and her precious great-great niece Rayne Jolley. She also was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Bertha Tomblin and nephew Stanley Lancaster and her sister Gail Russ.
There will be a celebration of Sandra’s life at Crowes Mortuary on Sunday October 15th at 2 PM with Rev. Jack Crain officiating.
