Obituary for Robert Vance
Robert Vance passed away on the evening of, Wednesday, April 21, 2021at his home in Somerset. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Vance was born July 9, 1938 in Rutherfordton, NC. He lived there as a child and after graduating high school enlisted in the United States Army. He served our country faithfully and was honorably discharged. He lived in Newark for a short time before moving to Franklin Township in 1966 where he and his wife would raise their family.
He was employed by General motors as an Assembler and retired after 38 years of service. Mr. Vance had a passion for working on automobiles and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Mr. Vance was predeceased by his siblings Mary Vance, Barbara Vance and Hubert Vance.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn and his children. Robert Vance, Felicia Vance, Christopher Vance and wife Tamika, Jeffrey Vance, and Gregory Vance. He is also survived by his siblings Luther Vance, Roger Vance and wife Gladys and Edna Vance, his grandchildren Chanel, Tiara, Lisa and Kaitlyn and great grandson Amari.
A visitation was held on Saturday April 24, 2021 from 6-8 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset, NJ.
Graveside services will be held 1 PM, Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Gold Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. H. Emerson Kerns officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Vance will lie in state from 9 AM until noon Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Crowe’s Mortuary, 118 College Ave. Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
