Reverend Robert (Bob) Henry Hollifield died Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Bob was born February 28, 1937 on Yelton Street, Spindale, NC to the late (Johnny) Henry and Juanita Hill Hollifield. He was a graduate of North Augusta High School where he was voted most courteous. He graduated from North Greenville Junior College and New Orleans Theological Seminary with a Master of Music Degree.
His ministry as an ordained Minister of Music organist was in Mississippi, Louisiana and South Carolina. Each Thanksgiving Bob’s Handbell Choir was invited to participate in the South Carolina Governor’s Carolighting Festivities on the steps of the Capitol. After retiring in 1996 from full time ministry, he served as interim Minister of Music at Spencer Baptist Church, Spindale, NC and later as organist at Spencer Baptist Church, interim Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, and organist at Spindale United Methodist Church, Spindale for 16 ½ years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine H. Ford and first wife Judith (Judy) Tamney Hollifield.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hudgins Hollifield; daughters, Karen H. Walters (DeWayne), Brenda H. Walters (Derrick), Donna H. Walters (Kevin); grandsons Matt Walters (Lindsey),Brandon Walters, Drew Walters (Katie); granddaughters, Ashley Schoonmaker (Kyle) and Aundra Walters; greatgrandchildren, Luke Walters, Claire Walters, Charlie Walters, Freddie Walters; brothers, Dan Hollifield of Aiken, SC and Morris Hollifield of Rutherfordton, NC; nephew Wally Ford (Debbie) and several great nephews and nieces. Bob was well liked by all who knew him. Bob loved helping others, vegetable and flower gardening, feeding the birds, model trains and riding trains. He also enjoyed the mountains and always wanted to live atop a mountain. He was an avid reader, loved traveling, enjoyed driving cars for various dealerships in Rutherford County. Bob was a US Army veteran.
Bob was a board member for the New Beginnings Soup Kitchen, Performing Arts Event staff, member of the Rutherford County Chorus, Rutherford Community Chorus, and board member of the 096 Chapel.
A Memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, August 25, 2023 At Spencer Baptist Church Spindale, NC with Reverend Bruce Caldwell and Reverend Kelly Settlemyre officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center.
The family offers a special thanks to Mrs. Joyce Jones, Mrs. Maude Towery, Jody Hartman, June Culbreth, Garry Ankron Sr. and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for their care.
