Obituary for Rev. James Luther Daves
Reverend James L. Daves, 82, entered into the presence of his Heavenly Father on February 4, 2020. James was the son of the late W.W. and Olna Dycus Daves.
James is survived by his wife of sixty years, Rebecca Allen Daves, daughters April Leonhardt (Lee) of Greer, SC, Ginger Daves Gappa of Lyman, and Robin McDonald (James) of Anderson, SC, one sister, Joyce Daves White (Joe) of Simpsonville, SC, sister in law Barbara Allen Brigman (Johnnie) of Forest City, NC.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Rebekah Marsh, Caroline Freeman, Tony Hinson, Greg Hinson, James Daves McDonald, Sarah McDonald Carson, and great grandchildren, Sarena Hinson, Jade and Cierra Marsh, Lily and Ronnie Freeman, Ellis and Jenna McDonald, and soon to be born, Jane Carson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Samantha Taylor.
James served churches in NC, SC, Georgia, and worked with the North American Mission Board in New York City. He was a skilled craftsman and an avid reader. He was a faithful husband and devoted father who demonstrated genuine love for his family. His life impacted countless people in the congregations he served during the fifty years of pastoral ministry.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2 o’clock PM at Adaville Baptist Church in Spindale, NC, 805 Oakland Road, Spindale, NC 28160. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
