Mrs. Mary Jane Nelon Melton, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 7th, 2022 while being cared for at Life Care Center of Hendersonville. She was a native of Rutherford County and daughter of the late Rufus and Annie Mae Conner Nelon. She was also preceded in death by her husband Eugene Melton; their son, John Eugene Melton and daughter in law Deborah Lynn Melton; her brothers, Claude, Sidney, Wade, Ernest, Richard and Edward Nelon; and her sisters, Myrtle Searcy, Rosa Mae Owensby, Geneva Wilson and Pauline Dotson. Mrs. Melton was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church, was active in local elections and in the Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Michael Ray Melton and wife Sharon; one daughter, Mildred Dianne Melton Bailey; one sister, Sarah Nelon Lawter; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by Arlene Melton Smith and husband Jim, as well as a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday May 14 at Chimney Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Nelon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday May 13 at Crowe’s Mortuary.
