Obituary for Mabel Ruth Satrape

Mabel Ruth Spangenberg Satrape, 96, born December 20, 1925 in East Orange, NJ,
died at home December 24, 2021.

Originally from New Jersey, she later lived in Maine, Rhode Island, Cape Cod Massachusetts, and then North Carolina. She loved to travel and had wonderful trips exploring many countries and was always ready to go somewhere. Everyone who met Mabel was welcomed like family and loved her love of life. She lived her best life all the time.

In her early life she was a ballerina, which was her passion, and during WWII she danced with a troupe of coworkers from Prudential and traveled to military hospitals, West Point, and military bases around the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York areas putting on variety shows for our troops. She was very proud of her part in doing that for all the soldiers. Later in life she taught line dancing at the Wyndham Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, where she resided with her husband Joe. If there was music, you would find Mabel dancing!

Mabel is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joseph, her daughter Edna (Mark), beloved grandchildren Doug Jacobsen (Elizabeth), Spencer Jacobsen (Brooke), Wesley Jacobsen (Sina), Ben Worster, Megan Handy (Sam), Amelia Rasczyk (Anthony), Henry Haines (Sherrie), as well as many great-grandchildren. Her five year old twin great-grandchildren, Kaley and Carter, would run to her saying G-G-Ma!! They adored her.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Forest City, NC in memory of Mabel.
