Obituary for Larry Wayne Tucker

Larry Wayne Tucker, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Boydton, VA on January 17, 2022. Larry was born on January 8, 1941, in Chimney Rock, NC to Tommie Tucker and Julia (June) Mae Dalton. In 1958 Larry graduated from Cradock High School in Portsmouth, VA and then entered into service for the United States Coast Guard from 1959-1963, where he was stationed in Elizabeth City, NC. He went on to attend Chowan College and then worked for Texaco Inc. as a delivery driver and sales representative for several years until he purchased and managed multiple service stations in Chesapeake, VA, including Tucker’s Self Service. In 1986, Larry sold the service stations to begin a career in farming, which was his true passion. He worked at the Virginia Department of Corrections as an Agricultural Specialist, helping inmates learn the skill of farming. Brother Tucker was a 55-year Masonic Veteran of Lake Drummond, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Portsmouth (VA) and a 55-year member of Lake Drummond Lodge.

In 1979, Larry married Dot and became a stepfather to her 3 children, Denise, David, and Daniel Selby. He is survived by his children Denise Daniels (Adrian), David Selby (Shani), Daniel Selby; grandchildren, Stephanie Holley (Matt), Fella Daniels, Lauren Johnson (Brent), Tucker Daniels (Josefina), Ashley Matthews (Jeff), Jonathan Selby (Erika), Hunter Selby, Quinten Selby (Monica), Alexis Selby; great grandchildren, Henry, Vincent, Cole, Colin, Kyden, Korbin, Ellwood, Waylon, June, Piper, Paige, Penny, Kaiden, Amelia and James. He is also survived by his special family friends, Gene Long and his son, Vance Long, Clint and Mary Hutchins and family; numerous other cousins and family members, especially his “Favorite Cousin”, Linda Crump. Larry was predeceased by his parents and twin granddaughters Evelyn Desiree and Simone Leigh Selby (David and Shani).

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 29 at Chimney Rock Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake Lure, NC.
