Obituary for Kim Ann McQueen (Firth)

Kim Ann Firth McQueen....... May 3, 1962 - August 26, 2021

It is with great sadness that the loving family of Kim Ann Firth McQueen acknowledges her passing. Our beloved Kim was challenged in these last years with significant health issues. We have lost a sister, an aunt, a stepmother and a grandmother. Family is everything, it grows from the roots of the tree of life, from which spring great variety. The branches are our connections to one another, the leaves and blossoms are the individual expressions of each and every one of us. Our personalities blossom as we age. We change, we grow, we become.

Our beloved Kim entered into this life full of energy, full of spunk and playfulness. As she grew up, that was still true. She was the bright light in the room, the spark of energy and laughter, and as Kim herself often said, “I’m just full of antics.” And then she would laugh that special unique laugh that she had. (I can hear it in my mind as I write this.) She was creative artistically and had a sense of humor that wouldn’t quit. She loved sharing time with friends and all of her family. We all loved her so much.

Kim met the love of her life, James (Jim) McQueen, and entered married life together in 1993. A beautiful life began for them, they were perfect for one another. Jim was the rock and foundation of her life and Kim was the sparkle and comedian and homemaker. They had many happy years together and enjoyed the wonderful home which they created together. Full of good food, sweet memories with family and friends, and lots of cats! Yes, Kim was a huge lover of cats. They were her little ones, they were her friends and her companions. Jim even built her an official “cat room” in their home, complete with perches and kitty stairs that went up the a ledge below the ceiling! Her compassion and care for them, and for all animals, is just another marvelous legacy by which we will also always remember her.

Kim assisted Jim in running the office for him when he had his own business, McQueen Auction and Real Estate, in Rutherfordton County and area, and also McQueen Bail Bonding. Jim was an amazing auctioneer and Kim was wonderful at running the office and keeping everything organized. She was always so very proud of her dear husband.

Our darling Kim leaves two sisters, Susie Firth Candelaria and Jennifer Firth Fisher, and two brothers-in-law John Randel Candelaria and Rick Lynn Fisher. Her two nephews are Drake William Fisher, 16 and Erik Robert Fisher, 14 (both of whom she was immensely proud of, and excited to see each of them grow into fine, young, talented men.) Cousins James Henry Schneider, Todd and Cindy Schneider and their children Olivia and TJ, Kimberly and Frank Carr and daughter Natasha. Stepson Brian McQueen and his wife Mandy, and stepdaughter Theresa McQueen Soppelsa and husband Michael and granddaughter Amelia.

Kim is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim McQueen, her loving parents William (Bill) Penn Firth III and Erika M. Toennies Firth, her grandmother Emma Toennies (Nana) and grandfather Heinrich Toennies, grandfather Herbert Milward Firth and grandmother Gladys Bergendahl Firth, aunt Anni Schnepel, uncle Henry Schneider, aunt Marget Firth Schneider, cousins Dawn Schneider, David Schneider, Carsten Schnepel and Uschi Cygas, and brother-in-law Paul R. Cooper.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that you consider making a donation to local animal rescue groups, humane shelters, no-kill shelters, animal sanctuaries or any group which seeks a safe and secure home for all the precious animals who need one so badly. Aside from family, and her life with her dear husband Jim, the protection of those small ones was a guiding passion in Kim’s life.

Be free now, our dear Kimmie. Fly free to the greater Heavenly realm of joy and peace and healing. We will love you forever.
