Obituary for Jane Ellen Lawson (Halley)

Rutherfordton, NC

Mrs. Jane Ellen Lawson age 94, of Navaho Trail, passed away at her home on February 11, 2023. A native of Lanham, Maryland, Jane was the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Crouse Halley, Sr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the love of her life and father of her children, Irving Lawson who passed away on September 27, 1990 and one brother Frank Halley, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Ed Lawson and his wife, Sharon; her daughter, Ann Edwards; granddaughter, Lanna Evans; three great granddaughters, twins- Mikaila Imani & Aneesa Bianca Hall, Kaleah Jane Evans; cousin, GinnyVan Crouse Hampton, whom she considered her sister, and also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews along with their families; and longtime friend Mary Hampton.

Jane lived a long and happy life, starting in Lanham, MD and Sparta, NC. She met her future husband, Irving Lawson, a Washington, DC policeman while she was working in the Licensing Bureau in Washington, DC. They were married June 21, 1953. She continued to work until they started their family with Ed arriving in 1955 and Ann in 1957.
An active church member, she was a UMYF counselor in Florida after moving there in 1970. She loved the outdoors, camping with the Youth Group, gardening, flowers and birds. She also loved to cook, especially baking. If you couldn’t find her at church, you just had to look in the kitchen.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held 12 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Crowe’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian Blanchett officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 12 PM, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Crowe’s Mortuary. She was laid to rest in the Lake Worth Memory Gardens in Lake Worth, Florida.
