James “Jim” Madison Robbins, 73, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer while being cared for at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. A native of Rutherford County, Jim was the son of the late James D. and Arrie Hicks Robbins.
Jim was a cum laude graduate of NC State University and was the owner and operator of an interior design business, Robbins Paint and Carpet for 44 years. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Jim had the pleasure of playing at St. Andrews in Scotland and Pebble Beach. As a member of Spencer Baptist Church for over forty years, Jim served in many capacities, He taught Adult Sunday School for 25 years, was a former deacon, as well as chairman. Jim loved singing in the choir and also sang with the Sounds of Singing Men and the Rutherford County Chorus. He was owner and pit master of the award- winning Pampered Pig barbecue. Jim also served on the Board of Directors for First Citizens Bank.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 52 years, Anne Cole Robbins; daughters Jenny Robbins Thompson and husband Chris of Huntersville, Erin Robbins Smith and husband Jonathan of Cornelius; grandchildren, Cole, Noah, Sara and Jake Thompson; sister in law Mary Jane Hines and husband Keith of Denver, NC, two nephews, Brian and Eric Hines, as well as a number of cousins.
Memorial services will be held 3PM Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center. Inurnment will be private.
