Obituary for Ivey Dean Simpson

Ivey Dean Simpson, 69, of Rutherfordton, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A native of Burke County, he was the son of Ivey Simpson and the late Earlene Poteet Simpson. Ivey worked as an assembler in manufacturing and was a member of Bible Tabernacle.
In addition to his father, left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary Greene Simpson; son Timothy Simpson; daughter, Sherry Taylor and husband Eric; grandchildren, Dillon Huffman, Samantha Owens and husband Cameron, Matthew Taylor, Timmy Simpson Jr., Ashlynn Simpson and Micah Simpson; four great grandchildren; sister Evelyn Austin and husband Paul; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter Sandy Carol Simpson, and a brother Kenny Simpson.
Ivey Dean Simpson was a ball of light! Anyone and everyone who was lucky enough to know him or just get to talk to him was blessed to have a man like him in their life.
Dean Simpson was a loving father, grandfather, a caring husband, an amazing friend, super hard worker and mentor, and an outstanding leader and role model. He truly was an open book and a huge bookworm. Dean treated everyone with the utmost respect no matter who they were. You always knew where you stood with him and he would always put others before himself. He loved very hard.
He also loved his sweets, everything from his Sun Drop to Crystal Light and his Peppermint Patties. Dean loved to spend his free time with friends and family and sneaking off to play Solitaire, Tetris, or Bejeweled on his computer any chance he got. He loved to talk to people for hours at a time if he could; telling stories, sharing memories, or just telling a joke. Dean Simpson will live on in our hearts forever!
Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Bible Tabernacle with Rev. Joe Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church. Interment will be 11 AM Monday, June 13, 2022 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Tabernacle Mission Fund, 207 US Hwy 74A 64, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.
