Obituary for Geneva Robertson (Gosnell)

Rutherfordton, NC - Geneva Robertson (aged 97) passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Geneva was born on July 29, 1922 in Buncombe County, NC to Betty and Hannibal Gosnell. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Logan Robertson, her son, Norman Leo Robertson, and her daughter Brenda Robertson Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Lillian Christine Raderstorf and her husband David M. Raderstorf of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Geneva, known as ‘Mammaw’ to her family, was a loving and loved woman. Mammaw was the ‘Mother Matriarch’ and pillar of strength for her family; loving others was her true mission in life. Even through tragedies, as a devoted Christian woman, Mammaw upheld a steadfast faith in Jesus and served as a beacon of joy and hope for others. She loved cooking, music (especially Elvis Presley and Conway Twitty), coloring, picnics, nature and spending time with her family. When it comes to cooking, her family truly believes she invented ‘Chicken ‘n’ Dumplings’ and ‘Creamed Corn’.

Everyone who met Mammaw knew her kind soul and heart. She had a contagious smile and laugh that lit up the room, and the sweetest southern voice you ever heard. When she hugged or held one of her grandchildren, she would gaze upon them with pride, amazement and with a look of love that melted the hearts of all that witnessed her beauty. A self-proclaimed “UNO Champion of the World”, a friend to all, and the best Aunt, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother anyone could ever have been blessed to know and love.

Mammaw leaves behind an amazing legacy of five generations of family and love… it only took 97 years, but God finally called his “Angel on Earth” home.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Bills Creek Baptist Church, 1475 Bills Creek Road, Lake Lure, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
