Obituary for Doris Smith (Nix)
Asheville, NC
Doris Nix Smith went to be with her Lord Friday, June 12, 2020. She will be missed by many including her loving husband of 64 years, James Smith, her daughter, Cynthia Smith Watson, her son in law, Steve Watson, and her three grandsons, James, William and Grant Watson of Asheville. She is survived by one dear brother, Marshall Nix of Rutherfordton.
Doris worked in banking for more than 40 years and was well-known and loved by co-workers as well as customers. She was a collector of many beautiful figurines and antiques and dragged her loving husband all over the South collecting them. She was a master biscuit-maker and loved nothing more than making country ham biscuits for her grandsons. She dearly loved and kept up with her extended family of nieces and nephews. She was kind, she was patient, she was her daughter’s best friend, and the love of her husband’s life. Our only peace is in knowing that she is enjoying the family reunion of a lifetime in Heaven!
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations in her honor to be made to Spencer Baptist Church, 187 N. Oak Street, Spindale, NC or the John Keever Solace Center, PO Box 5779, Asheville, NC.
A Celebration of her life will be held at Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale, NC on Sunday, June 14 at 2 pm. Spencer Church has a large sanctuary as well as a balcony, and anyone who feels the need to “social distance” will have plenty of room to do so. Doris will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. The service may be viewed on the church's Facebook page.
