Obituary for Deborah Gail Bennett (Price)

Debbie Price Bennett, age 72, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Debbie was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County and was a graduate of R.S. Central High School where she was a majorette in the band and played basketball all four years, attended Isothermal Community College where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and retired from the State of North Carolina after 28 years of service as an office manager in probation and parole. Debbie was an active member of Spencer Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Mission Friends, Vacation Bible School and also sang in the choir. Politically she was very active in the Democratic Party serving as past president of the Rutherford County Democrat Party, member of the Women’s Club and Secretary of the Rutherford County Democrat Club. Debbie was also known for her love of The UNC Tar Heels and as an advocate of donating blood with the American Red Cross.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, William Owen Price and Elsie Mae Ford Price and one brother Melvin Leroy Price. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, James S. Bennett of the home; one daughter, Catherine Sybert and her husband Marshall; grandchildren, Reid Sybert, Madeleine Sybert and Caden Sybert all of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Barbara McCurry of Bostic, NC, Patricia Price of Forest City, NC; one brother, Doug Price and his wife Barbara of Statesville, NC; nieces and nephews, Chuck McCurry, Tony Price and wife Lynn, Teri Hendrickson and husband Steve, Tim Price and wife Michelle, Todd Price and wife Jill, Julie Price, Carmel Sanderson and husband Patrick, Trent Killian and wife Leigh, Robin Killian and husband Rob. A great niece Holly Weeks.
Funeral services will be held 12 P.M., Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Spencer Baptist Church 187 North Oak Street, Spindale NC 28160 with Rev. Bruce Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. in the Family Life Center of Spencer Baptist Church. Debbie will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1565 Oakland Road, Forest City NC 28043. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills P.O. Box 336 Forest City NC 28043 or to Spencer Baptist Church Youth.
