Obituary for David Spencer Norris Sr.

David Spencer Norris, Sr., born September 18, 1946, passed away October 18, 2021 at his home in Forest City, NC. Born in Rutherfordton, NC, David was the son of the late John Henry Norris and Kathleen (Norris) Irvin, step son of Robert Irvin.

David was part of the first graduating class from Isothermal Community College. He went on to further his education obtaining his Bachelors at Western Carolina University and his Masters at North Carolina State University. David married his wife Sandra in 1965 and they had two children: Gina Norris Powell and David Spencer Norris, Jr. David worked as a probation parole officer for Rutherford County until his retirement. After retirement he spent most of his time working on his old cars and with his family.

David was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Norris; his mother, Kathleen (Norris) Irvin; his step father, Robert Irvin; and his brother Steve Norris.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years Sandra (Smith) Norris; his mother in law, Jean Smith; daughter, Gina Powell and husband Gregory Powell; his son, David Norris, Jr.; his granddaughters Elisha Weld and husband Chris Weld; Jeanna Hutsenpiller and husband Stephen Hutsenpiller, Elisabeth Norris; Dorothy Jane Norris, Autry Grace Norris, Emily Norris; his grandsons; Jonathan Powell and fiancé Rosie Jackson; David Spencer Norris III, John Henry Norris II; great granddaughters, Elora Weld, Elena Weld, and Aniya Powell; and great grandsons Aden Powell and Joseph Powell and a number of well loved nieces and nephews.

Those who love him will miss his adventurous spirit, his sarcastic tone, and unmatched wit. He spent his retirement years searching for treasures, often joking with his family that he was spending their inheritance. They’ll truly miss his next unnecessary find.
“It isn’t the date on either end that counts, but how they used their dash, for that dash between the dates represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.”

Graveside services will be held 3 PM Friday, October 22, 2021 at Word of Faith Fellowship cemetery, 308 Godfrey Road, Forest City, NC with Revs. Sam and Jane Whaley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Word of Faith Christian School, 207 Old Flynn Road, Spindale, NC 28160.
