Charles Thomas Coyne passed away on April 20, 2014. Tom was born on December 3, 1935 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was the son of Charles and Mary Lawler Coyne. He moved to Deptford, New Jersey and attended Woodbury High School in his Senior year. This is where he met his sweetheart, Betty VanEtten Coyne. Tom and Betty were married on August 18, 1956. They had four children, Thomas, Kevin, Brian and Colleen. Tom was a Steamfitter with Local Union #420 and then became an owner and trainer of Standardbred Horses. They moved from Wenonah, NJ to their farm in Flemington, New Jersey, where Tom and his boys worked and trained racehorses. Tom and Betty retired to Lake Lure, North Carolina in April, 2006, where they enjoyed playing golf and spending time with new friends. Tom and Betty were former members of The Lake Lure Lions Club. Tom was an avid golfer and really enjoyed the game. Most of all, Tom is to be remembered as a man who fiercely loved his wife, children and his 6 beautiful grandchildren. He was surrounded by his wife and children in his final days.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Coyne. Tom leaves behind his wife Betty, son Thomas, son Kevin and his wife Michele, son Brian, daughter Colleen and her husband Craig, sister Emma Jane Lewis and his grandchildren Kristen, Michael, Jake, Kevin, Caroline and Emily.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2 pm at Crowe’s Mortuary, 118 US Highway 74A, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. The Family will receive friends from 1-2 pm.
