Obituary for Barbara Lynn Hornibrook (Schaffer)
Barbara Lynn Schaffer Hornibrook, age 69, of Rutherfordton passed away Tuesday May 25, 2021 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. She was a native of Pennsylvania and the daughter of Shirley Schaffer of Rutherfordton and the late Quinton Alvin Schaffer Jr.
In addition to her mother; Barb is survived by her son Jonathan Hornibrook of Haverhill, Ma.; brother Skip Schaffer and family of Peabody, Ma. And her fiancé Ed Herbster of Rutherfordton.
After college Barb traveled for a few years as a stewardess with National and Pan Am Air Lines and then went to nursing school. She was a hospice nurse in Ft. Myers Florida and was loved by all she served. She spent her life caring for others with compassion and loving kindness. There were no strangers in her life for long. Everybody became a friend. Thinking of Barb brings a smile to your face because she had a great sense of humor and was the funniest person in the room. When her son Jon was about 3 years old he said, “I have the funnest mom i ever saw”, and she was; this was after both of them were soaking wet from stomping in rain puddles. All who knew her loved her. She will be greatly missed, and in our hearts forever. So, when you glance at the heavens and catch a glimpse of the brightest, twinkling star; that will be our Barby.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
