Obituary for Barbara Ann Brock (Powell)

Barbara Powell Brock, age 78, of Forest City, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 1st, 2021. She was born on September 4th, 1942 in Burke County, NC.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Edward Leroy and Ann Powell, natives of Burke County. She was preceded in death by her first son, Timothy Brock. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kerry Brock and wife, Nikki Brock, of Forest City, NC and their children, Nathan, Natalie, and Karsyn. She is also survived by another son, Kevin Brock of Forest City, NC and his children, Kanaan, Josie, Kaitlyn, and Mia. She had many nieces and nephews, along with others who thought of her as a “second mother”.

Barbara graduated from Oak Hill High School, as well as attended and graduated from the Rutherford Hospital Nursing School. She had a passion for nursing and served many years in this field. Barbara worked as a nurse at the office of Doctors England and Godfrey. She was also a nurse of Hospice of Rutherford County for almost six years. Barbara then moved to the Rutherford County Health Department to serve as a WIC nutrition specialist where she retired. She was also a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Forest City, NC.

Barbara was a loving mother. She loved to read and watch the Braves play baseball,was an avid Duke fan and loved to play intense games of Scrabble. Barbara had a love for travel, and went on several mission trips with her church.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM, Saturday, February 6th, 2021, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, 760 Bethany Church Road, Forest City, NC 28043 with Rev. Chris Fox officiating. The family will be available to receive friends directly after the service. The family respectfully request that everyone in attendance please observe social distancing and wear a facial covering.
