Nellie Jenkins Gilbert passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side at Hospice House in High Point, NC Tuesday January 22nd. Nellie was born January 1st, 1929 in Rutherford County to the late Grady Jenkins and Nellie Elmore Jenkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Hollis Gilbert, and her brother Earl Jenkins.

Nellie was a hard worker until the age of seventy-five. She retired after thirty-two years of service at Rutherford Hospital where she was honored Silent Hero and Employee of the Year awards. Her greatest love and passion were serving her Lord, Jesus Christ and exemplified that in caring for her friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Vicki Pope of High Point, grandson Jimmy Kendall also of High Point, granddaughter Carrie Rodriguez (Javier) of Thomasville, NC, four great grandchildren Reid Butler, Kendall Butler, Maxwell Kendall also of High Point, Carlo Rodriguez of Thomasville, NC and her sisters Sandra Briscoe and Mary Lou King of Forest City, NC.

Nellie’s funeral will be at Spindale Church of the Brethren, 128 Sterling Street, Spindale, NC 28160 on Saturday January 26th beginning at 11:00 am. Receiving of Friends will be before the service at 10:00 am.
