Betty Ruth McGrew Hill of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, died January 11, 2019 at Carolina Medical Center, Cleveland.

Born September 17, 1933 in Pickens, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Clinton McGrew and Elise Elrod McGrew.

Mrs. Hill attended RS Central High School and continued her education at Wofford College. She was a licensed real estate agent.

Mrs. Hill was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rutherfordton, North Carolina. She was very active in her community, enjoyed her home, yard work and the company of her family and dearest friends.

Mrs. Hill married her high school sweetheart, the late Jay Dewitt Hill, a native of Rutherford County, North Carolina. After Mr. Hill completed his military service, they returned to Rutherford County where they built their home. They were married 56 years. They enjoyed traveling both in the United States and Europe.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean McGrew Pope and her son in law, Sam Freeman. Mrs. Hill is survived by two daughters,
Sandra Hill Freeman of Bostic, North Carolina, Susan Hill Sain and husband Phillip Sain of Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Three grandchildren, Benson Freeman and wife Amanda, of Bostic, North Carolina, Travis Sain and wife, Rebecca of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Nicole Conley and husband Danny of Spartanburg, South Carolina;
seven great grandchildren, Creed and Ranger Freeman, Erika and Hunter Sain, Brandon Conley, Jonathan and Emily Lawrence; one brother, Jimmy McGrew and wife, Dorothy of Pickens, South Carolina.

Services are private.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Piedmont-Pleasant Hill Community Building Maintenance Fund c/o Mae McMahan, Treasurer, 160 Dave Sims Road, North Carolina or to Oolenoy Baptist Church, 201 Miracle Hill Road, Pickens, South Carolina.
