Wade Vollie Nelon, age 69, husband of Vickie Merrell Nelon of 664 Girl Scout Camp Rd. Mill Spring, NC passed away Friday November 17 at his home.
Wade was a native of Rutherford County. He was one of 12 children born to the late Rufus Wilkebell Nelon and Annie Mae Conner Nelon and owner of Wade Nelon Sanitation Services. He was an accomplished hunter and outdoorsman.
His family was the center of Wade’s life. He and his wife Vickie were blessed with 8 children; Angela Wilson and husband Ricky of Sunnyview, Scott Nelon and wife Stephanie of Lake Lure, Vanessa Pruitt and husband Tim of Lake Lure, Erin Nelon of Hendersonville, Eric Nelon and wife Tammie of Columbus, Michael Nelon and wife Anna of Lake Lure, Samantha Ledford and husband Ben of Cedar Creek and the late Rosa Nicole Nelon. In addition to his wife and children Wade leaves behind 14 Grandchildren; two great grandchildren and three sisters Mary Jane Melton of Lake Lure, Sarah Lawter of Bat Cave and Myrtle Searcy of Asheville. Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church on Hwy #9 in Lake Lure, NC with the Rev. Ansel Pace and Rev. Paul Nelon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Wade will lie in state at his home at 664 Girl Scout Camp Rd. Mill Spring from 3 PM Sunday until 12 PM Tuesday. He will lie in state at the church from 1-2 PM prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
