Dr. Charles Warren “Chuck” Urrey age 60, formerly of Charlotte, NC and recently of Rutherfordton, NC slipped into the next realm on Monday December 29, 2014 after a decade long battle with brain cancer. Born in Tulsa, OK he relocated to North Carolina in 1992 to accept a position as a clinical psychologist with Carolinas Medical Center. He helped establish a Red Cross Team of mental health professionals to respond to local disasters. Dr. Urrey also worked with CMPD to assist officers after traumatic events. He is survived by his loving companion, Julie Lynn Stanton of Rutherfordton, N.C., his three children, Hannah Adair Voorhees Urrey of Washington, D.C., Will Abraham Voorhees Urrey of Charlotte, N.C. and Sarah Rose Voorhees Urrey currently at UNCG, his mother Patricia Ruth Adair Goetz of Tulsa, OK, one brother Timothy Swingle Urrey of Chouteau, OK and one sister Maria Bernadette Urrey Parker of Lawton, OK. He is also survived by the mother of their three beautiful children and a role model as a parent Susan Carol Voorhees. He was preceded in death by his father Emmett Otto Urrey, brothers Michael Thomas Urrey and Jeffery Scott Urrey and a sister Emily Anne Urrey.Dr. Urrey was an active member of the Charlotte Amateur Astronomer’s Club and was also a member of the Cherokee Nation.A secular celebration of life will be held 2 PM Saturday January 10, 2015 at Anne Springs Close Greenway-Bruce T. Rush Pavilion in Fort Mill, S.C. A religious ceremony will be held 11:30 AM Saturday January 10, 2015 at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church 501 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County P.O. Box 336 Forest City NC 28043, Harris First Baptist Church 127 Hogan Road Forest City NC 28043 or Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church.
