Sara Florence McEntire Vickers of Rutherfordton, NC died Tuesday, October 23, 2012. She was born November 10, 1938 in Rutherford County, NC and was the daughter of the late Elzie and Verdi Mae McEntire.

Florence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who gave unconditionally to all those she loved. She spent many years working in the retail, transportation and hospitality industries. Her love, in addition to her family, included music and its heritage.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Thomas Vickers of Rutherfordton, NC and two children, Donald Thomas Vickers, Jr and wife Jeanna of Valdese, NC and Amy Vickers Camper and husband Jamie of Spindale, NC. Surviving grandchildren are Kami Vickers, Adam Vickers, Ashley Lancaster and Savannah Camper and great-grandchildren Carlie Dillinger, Alyssa and Aaliyah Vickers, and Isaiah and Emma Lancaster

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Ray McEntire and is survived by her sister, Betty McDaniel and four brothers; Ransome, Dean, Mack, and Dennis McEntire and their families.

Visitation for the family will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Crowe’s Mortuary with services immediately following in the Crowe’s chapel at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dean Baughn officiating.

Florence was a breast cancer survivor and, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
